Sports Premium

What is the PE and Sport Premium?

The primary PE and sport premium was introduced in March 2013 to improve the provision of physical education and school sport in primary schools across England. The funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health, and Culture, Media and Sport (DfE, DH, DCMS). The funding is allocated directly to primary schools and is ring-fenced. This means it may only be spent on improving the provision of PE and sport in schools. In February 2014 the government committed to continue the funding until 2020. More information can be found here.

All schools with 17 or more primary-aged pupils between the ages of 5-11 on roll, receive a lump sum of £8,000 plus an additional premium of £5 per pupil.

Our Vision for PE and Sport

The Weald Church of England Primary school, is part of the Dorking School Partnership (DSP), which enables us to enter many local competitions in a wide variety of sports including: cross country (which is held here in our 17 acre grounds), football, netball, golf, gymnastics and much more.

We believe that physical education and sport contribute to the holistic development of young people and through participation in sport and physical education, young people learn more about key values such as teamwork, fair play and respect for themselves and others.

As a school we are committed to nurturing a positive approach to physical activities, healthy lifestyle choices and knowledge and understanding of our bodies and how they work.
