  • VE Day Party for Year 6

    Tue 18 Dec 2018

Year 6  celebrated VE Day last week with a wartime tea party and some dancing. They have been learning about rationing (no party rings or pineapple and cheese on sticks in those days) and had learned the jive to teach their parents. The party started with a beautiful rendition of 'The White Cliffs of Dover'. Parents were then allowed to sample the party food on offer - all of which would have been around for VE Day - and could look at the amazing work done by Year 6 this term. The children then did a polished performance of the Jive before teaching parents and carers the dance. Even Mrs Stevenson and Ms Redman had a lesson! The party ended with 'We'll meet again' which was sung with gusto and emotion, before parents and carers were all given a 'make do and mend' present made by the children.

It was a fitting end to what has been a very popular topic in Year 6. The children have handled sensitive issues with maturity, and their writing has come on in leaps and bounds. Well done Year 6.

  • Carols and Candles

Tue 18 Dec 2018 debs mansfield

Our KS2 Church services were a lovely celebration of the Christmas story, told with carols and readings. It was very special to be back at St Mary Magdalene church—it made the services all the more meaningful.

Thank you to the Parents and Carers for helping us to walk to the church. We are lucky to have so many willing helpers. We hope you all enjoyed the services.

  • KS1 Nativity - tissues at the ready

Thu 13 Dec 2018 debs mansfield

A big thank you to all the children and staff in EYFS Key Stage One for the most wonderful and memorable Nativity this week. All the children sung, acted, and read to perfection with parents looking on in wide-eyed wonder. The bravery of some of our tiniest children was astonishing - it is no mean feat to stand on the stage in front of an audience and they all did brilliantly. Special mention must go to our narrator who memorised all of his words and to the soloists who sang Away in a Manger so beautifully.

Thank you to Janine from Production Bugs who helped enormously to make the Nativity a truly polished performance. The songs were fabulous and all the children said their words with big loud voices. Well done everyone!

  • A Festive Monday Lunch Club

Thu 13 Dec 2018 debs mansfield

Some of our Year 6s had a trip out this week to Beare Green Village Hall where they helped to serve Christmas Dinner to the Monday Lunch Club. They gave out cards and satsumas to everyone, served the lunches, served cranberry and bread sauce, then cleared away plates and helped serve the puddings. They also tucked into their own lunches and enjoyed the wonderful festive feeling. Mrs Mansfield was ably helped by Mrs Tyson-Davies, our regular helper mummy, and a great time was had by all. The children, as always, were beautifully behaved and a credit to the school.

We look forward to going back to the Monday Lunch Club once a month next year.

  • It's Behind You

Thu 06 Dec 2018 debs mansfield
A HUGE thank you to FOTW for paying for the traveling Panto to come to school to perform Treasure Island. The children have had an absolutely wonderful time screaming 'It's behind you' and if you've never heard 230 singing 'Baby Shark' you haven't lived! Thank you to all the parents and carers who have come along to help raise money for the school this year, and to FOTW for all their amazing fundraising efforts. The Panto was a wonderful gift and a brilliant way to kick off the festive season.
