  • Year 4 under the mask

Tue 17 Jul 2018 Debs Mansfield
Year 4 explored symbols, patterns and mark making, taking inspiration from African masks and totems to go with their African topic this term. Mrs Lainchbury was very keen for them to explore the 3D aspects of noses which I think you'll agree they achieved admirably. The masks are exceptional. Once they are painted we will post more photos.
  • Years 3 and 4 are brassed off

Tue 17 Jul 2018 Debs Mansfield

Years 3 and 4 have enjoyed a whole class brass lesson today courtesy of Ian Stott and Surrey Arts. The children each had an instrument, ranging from the Tuba through to the tiny Cornet, and they learned various skills and techniques which enabled them to play a number of notes. They even played the Star Wars theme! If your Year 3 and 4 child comes home fired up with enthusiasm for brass lessons, you can book them for next term through Surrey Arts.

Thank you Ian for coming in to give the children this fabulous opportunity.

  • Year 5 and artists@318 get inspired by Wedgewood

Tue 17 Jul 2018 Debs Mansfield

On Monday our Year 5 children took part in a clay workshop. A group called artists@318, a centre for ceramics excellence based in Farnham, had been awarded funding by the National Trust to make ceramic art for Leith Hill Place.

As part of the project they made Wedgewood-inspired bowls which will be exhibited in a large installation on the second floor of the property. Our year 5 children worked with clay under the supervision of experienced ceramicists. Their bowls will be exhibited as part of the installation, which the students, their families and friends will have the opportunity to see. The finished bowls will be delivered back to the schools once the exhibition is finished.

The quality of the bowls produced was amazing, and we can't wait for you to see what the children achieved.

Big thanks must go to artists@318 for coming into school, and to the National Trust for funding the project.

Visit here for more information about Wedgewood at Leith Hill Place during the summer.

  • GOSH Donation

Fri 06 Jul 2018 Debs Mansfield

Jacob and Isabella were delighted to present a cheque on behalf of the Weald to Great Ormond Street Hospital for just over £500. This was raised as a result of the pantomime at Christmas and staff at the hospital were hugely grateful. Isabella has been in their care since she was just 4 weeks old and we know first hand that the money will be well spent. Thank you to everyone who supported the pantomine and helped to raise such a fabulous amount. The even better news is that this is just half of the money that was raised the other half went to our fabulous school.

  • Dorking Schools Athletics Competition

Fri 06 Jul 2018 Lewis Davies

The Weald CofE Primary School took a Year 5 and Year 6 team to the Athletics meet at Pixham yesterday. On a hot and muggy evening the events were always going to be very challenging for all competing. There were many different events including long distance races, middle distance and short distance. We finished with three 1st place finishes, four 2nd place finish and 7 3rd place finishes in all the events. Up against a high number of county representative runners and top-end club level runners - our children performed with character, determination and not to mention a lot of fun.  Our Year 6 boys came third overall which was a monumental effort, and overall The Weald came 5th. It was a fantastic achievement - if it had been track events alone we would have finished 3rd - which just goes to show how well the children performed.

Standout performances on the night must get a mention. Mason picked up Gold in the 150m and the 75m, Johnny picked up Gold in the 600m, Annabel took the silver in the 150m and bronze in the 600m. Year 6 boys got silver in the 4x100m relay, Georgie won silver in the Year 5 600m, Izzy won Bronze in the 60m and Ella won Silver in the girls 600m. All the children performed to a fantastic level and never showed any sign of quitting when the going got tough. The fact they showed resilience in hard times speaks volumes of the character of all the children, so a huge well done to all involved.

We should all be incredibly proud of the children that represent our school and show confidence, determination and a desire to always improve and be the best they can. I for one will be sad to see this current year 6 leave as I have taught them from Year 2 and in that time they have had a lot of sporting success with the Weald school. The staff are all incredibly proud of each and every one of them. A special mention must go the parents who attended and supported. As usual, without that support children find sport incredibly challenging, so thank you. Now, we look forward to September and the new sporting calendar where we have football titles to defend.
