SPACE TO LEARN & GROW

Science Week

As scientists, children have had a week full of investigating, presenting, observing and experimenting. British Science Week is a ten day celebration of not just science but also, technology, engineering and maths. This year's theme is Connections. We started our week looking at different food and drink types to see which will cause different amounts of damage to our teeth. As eggshells are very similar to tooth enamel, we have been investigating the effects of different liquids on teeth.

Our observations have shown that water is definitely the healthiest drink for our teeth and that energy drinks are quick to attack our teeth. We were surprised that the apple juice also attacks the teeth quickly but we recognise how it also contains Vitamin C if drunk in moderation, with regular teeth brushing, it's ok to drink!

Children have also watched the BBC Science Live Lessons. They have designed and given a presentation for their own space capsules and explained how they will get to space.

Thank you to our visitors this week. We have had some brilliant talks and demonstrations from Miss Clack and Mr Goldsmith and also a visit from Dr Geraldine and Dr Richard from Hurtwood House for an insightful afternoon.

Throughout Science week, all year groups have been using 'post-it planning' to plan and document all their science investigations this week. They are able to see all the different areas of science and how diverse this is.
