  • 3rd Place for our Gymnasts!

    Fri 12 Feb 2016

This Monday our gymnastics club took a fabulous team to the Key Steps Gymnastics Competition at the Ashcombe School in Dorking. We had a great time and both Mr Davies and I were really impressed with their skills and great manners. Callum Taylor in Year 4 deserves a special mention as he came second on floor in the individual’s competition. Overall our fantastic team came 3rd out of 5. Congratulations to all of you, you really deserve it!

  • Year Four Trip to The Priory

    Fri 12 Feb 2016
Mrs Berreen, Ms George, Mrs Pirt, Mrs Moon and Mrs Jones were beaming with pride all afternoon as we accompanied Year 4 on their visit to The Priory School’s Dance and Gymnastic Performance on Thursday 11th February.  All the children were impeccably behaved and looked so smart as they were mesmerised by numerous dancers and gymnasts performing to music from the big screen.  We were not surprised that St Nicholas and St Mary Magdalene classes were spellbound but we were so very proud at the patience they demonstrated as we waited for mini buses to ferry us to and from Dorking.  Well done children – we look forward to going out of school with you again.

  • Weald School scoops twelve new tablets thanks to dedicated parents

    Thu 04 Feb 2016

Pupils at The Weald CofE Primary School, Beare Green, are reaping the benefits after parents and staff ate their way through a remarkable 600 tubs of Flora margarine to win the school 12 Samsung Galaxy tablets.

After appeals in newsletters to collect foil lids from promotional tubs, parents gathered 100 lids to earn them two tablets.

But the academy school’s parent teacher association, Friends of the Weald, set its aim higher and bought 500 tubs of the sunflower spread which were sold to staff and parents at every opportunity.

After a nervous wait – as the promotion was subject to availability – the school was delighted to receive 12 of the seven inch wifi 8GB tablets last week (Thursday, 28th January).

Chair of Friends of the Weald Mrs Nicki Taylor said: “They say that you don’t get something for nothing so it is just fantastic to have this amazing package of brand new technology arrive for our children and the staff to benefit from.

“The whole school community was incredibly supportive and embraced the opportunity – freezers filled up and a lot of baking went on in homes around Beare Green in the run up to the deadline!”

The school’s 277 pupils already have access to an ICT suite with computers and laptops, but the mobile devices will help with learning in classrooms around the school.

Interim headteacher Mrs Karen Simpson said: “The children and staff are delighted. These are the first tablets we have had in the school so we are now eagerly looking into all the opportunities they will bring – staff and pupils will be able to use the technology to research, create and present in innovative new ways.

“A close partnership between parents and the school is at the heart of all that we do at the Weald and this promotion highlights the parents’ dedication to the cause. I would like to thank everyone for their support, particularly our Friends of the Weald who are never afraid to think big!”
