• MAC causes a stir in assembly

  The children had a surprise visitor in assembly today in the shape of MAC, Surrey County Council's attendance mascot. MAC stands for Make Attendance Count, and this friendly character had an important message for the children.

  Mac told the story of his week at school. He had a bad week - one plagued with tummy ache and poor organisation. One morning he couldn't find everything he needed for school so was very late. Another day he told his mummy he had a tummy ache even though this wasn't true and he was just worried about something that was happening at school. By the end of the week he'd missed some important information in class, he'd missed a letter about the school trip, and his friends had learned a new game and he had to learn the rules before he could play.

  The following week he tried much harder. He packed his bag the night before to make sure he was on time. He spoke to his mum and teacher when he was worried, and he was in school, every day. He was so proud of himself.

  The simple but effective message is being rolled out across all of Surrey to try and improve attendance. Our whole school attendance last term was 94.7% which is slightly below the national average. This term it has risen to 96.15%, but we are only just into the Spring Term and need your help and support to ensure your child is at school every day and that we maintain these improvements.

  Mac will be back in school at Easter. If your child has 100% attendance until then, they will be entered into a draw with the chance to win one of two Mac Packs - a bright blue school bag with pens, pencils and quizzes.
