The performing arts is an important aspect of our curriculum. We place a high emphasis on the teaching of Music as a discrete subject and the use of Music as stimulus for cross curricular learning. All children benefit from Music lessons from a specialist teacher for at least a term each year alongside Music taught by their class teacher. Teaching and learning focus on the core components of Listening/Appraising; Composition; Performance and Singing.
We are proud of our partnership with J&C Academy Creative Arts Education (who provide our specialist Music teacher Ms Adrienne Tainton) and our partnership with Production Bugs. Both companies provide performing arts lessons across the school week as well as running after school clubs which include: Choir; Percussion; Composition and Musical Theatre.
Every child has the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument during their time at The Weald both as a classroom taught lesson and through opportunities for peripatetic music lessons. We are proud of our partnership with Surrey Music Hub and Open 2 Music who provide our instrumental class teachers. We currently offer individual and group lessons in piano, keyboard, guitar and drums/percussion. The growth of our musical offer to all children is also incorporated in opportunities to perform to audiences both informally and formally in Collective Worship; Celebrations such as Christmas, Easter and during termly Holy Communion services and through opportunities for all children to participate in key stage shows including the most recent EYFS/KS1 Nativity; KS2 Show "Searching for a Hero" and Year 6 leavers show.
