Design and Technology at The Weald is an imaginative, practical and collaborative subject. Children are given opportunities to critically evaluate everyday objects, materials and environments and use their creativity to come up with possible improvements. They consider how technology has impacted upon their daily lives and also on the wider world. Children are given a variety of opportunities to discuss, design and make their own products, relating to their unit of work for that term. Throughout their schooling at The Weald, children develop their technical vocabulary and discuss methods in which to improve their own designs. Incorporated in the Design and Technology curriculum is also cooking and nutrition. This is included across all year levels for example; medieval feasts in Year 5 and Roman dishes in Year 4. In addition to class learning opportunities students can also extend their knowledge through the afterschool clubs; robotics club and cooking club.
