The day was finally here for our World War II tea party. We had been building up to this for a couple of months by preparing the dance, songs, display work and making presents for our guests.
We got dressed and got ready at about 2 o’clock. We brought some tables from the dining hall so we had something to put our work on. Both of the classes brought their books and models through to the hall. There was great excitement.
Everyone had to bring their guest to their seat to get ready to start. Sophie welcomed all the parents and told them the arrangements. The first song was ‘The White Cliffs of Dover’. We all got into our rows. The music started and we started to sing.
When the song had finished, the guests had time to look at our topic books and projects, and have tea. For us, we had some food that people in WWII would have had. For the guests there was tea and biscuits.
Next was the swing dance. Everyone got into two rows and we put the music on. The first row came out and did their dance and then went back. Then the second row came out and did their dance. After that, the first group came back on and then it all finished. At the end of the dance, the children danced with one of their guests.
Last of all was the song ‘We’ll Meet Again’. We all got into rows for the very last time; we were all very excited. The music began. We all started to sing. It was all a good day; everybody enjoyed it. I hope the next Year 6s have just as much fun as us.
